Demeter

By: Bryan M. and Mark D.

Demeter was one of the Twelve Olympians. Demeter was Goddess of the harvest and was most notably linked to the growing, preserving and harvesting of grain. She was the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. Of all the Greek goddesses on Mount Olympus, Demeter was the one who was truly able to empathize with the human experience of suffering and grief. For she had fully experienced it herself. Did you know that Demeter is best known for her ferocity and endurance in the defense of her daughter? She is holding flowers in hay on the picture below. That is because she is the goddess of harvest.

Demeter's Symbols are: an Ear of Wheat and the Horn of Plenty

Demeter was not married to anyone. Her basic story was going on a quest to find Persephone who was snatched by Hades. This was because when Persephone was allowed to join her mother, this Deities influence encouraged the crops grow and Spring arrived. When her daughter returned to Hades Demeter fell into a deep depression, the plants stopped growing and Winter returned. Thank you for looking at this webpage! We hope you enjoyed it!

Author's Note: It was fun learning about Demeter the goddess of the harvest.
